Brian P. Murphy, Esq., 72, of Middletown, DE passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in the comfort of his own home after a long battle with cancer.
Born on February 6, 1939 in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late Cecil Edward and Veronica Murphy.
Brian grew up in Wilmington and attended Christ Our King grade school, Archmere Academy, where he graduated salutatorian, Georgetown University, and University of Pennsylvania Law School. Upon graduation from law school, Brian entered the U.S. Navy JAG Corps and completed 3 years of active duty, including a one year tour in Vietnam, and retired as a Commander. He was admitted to the Delaware bar and entered private practice in Middletown, where he practiced law for the next 40 years.
He was active in St. Joseph’s Parish, the M.O.T. Rotary, and the VFW.
Brian enjoyed history, news, politics, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. He will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Joseph Murphy and two brothers, Brendan and Kevin Murphy.
Brian is survived by his wife of 42 years, Loretta; three sons, Kevin (Sarah), Brian and Sean (Ligia); a daughter, Kathleen; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sophia, Christopher, Brendan and Katherine; a sister, Shelagh Madinabeitia; a sister-in-law, Catherine Crusco; six nieces; three nephews, as well as many dear friends and colleagues.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am on Saturday, July 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street in Middletown. Friends may visit with his family from 7-9 pm Friday evening, July 22 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown. Interment will be in Old Bohemia Cemetery, Warwick, MD.
